Clawrie
Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 27, 2026
Clawrie ("the App") is a nutrition tracking app for iOS. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data the App collects, how it is used, and your rights.
1. Data We Collect
Data stored locally on your device
- Meal entries — food names, calories, macronutrients (protein, fat, carbs), health grades, timestamps
- Meal photos — stored locally in the app's SwiftData database
- User profile — date of birth, biological sex, height, weight, activity level, body fat goal
- Weight entries — date and weight measurements
- Favorites — saved meal templates
- App preferences — theme, measurement units, daily nutrition goals
- API key (BYOK users) — stored in the iOS Keychain, encrypted and device-only
Data sent to third parties
- Meal photos and text descriptions — sent to OpenAI's API for AI nutrition analysis. Photos and text are processed in real-time and are not stored by OpenAI per their API data usage policy.
- Food name lookups — individual ingredient names may be sent to the Open Food Facts API to cross-reference nutritional data. No photos or personal data are included.
- Subscription status — managed by Apple through the App Store. We receive transaction verification data to validate your subscription.
HealthKit data (optional)
If you enable HealthKit integration, the App reads:
- Body weight
- Body fat percentage
- Active energy burned
- Step count
HealthKit data is used solely for TDEE calculation and goal tracking. It is never sent to any server.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
- No analytics or tracking
- No advertising identifiers
- No user accounts or registration
- No cloud sync
- No location data
- No contacts or calendar data
- No device fingerprinting
3. Third-Party Services
- OpenAI API — processes meal photos and text descriptions for nutrition analysis. Subject to OpenAI's API Data Usage Policy.
- Open Food Facts API — cross-references ingredient names against a public, community-maintained food database. No personal data is sent.
- Apple App Store — handles subscription payments and management.
No other third-party services, SDKs, or analytics tools are used.
4. Data Storage & Security
- All user data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData with file-level encryption (iOS Data Protection).
- API keys are stored in the iOS Keychain — encrypted, only accessible when your device is unlocked, not transferable to other devices, and not included in backups.
- The App does not have a backend database for user data. Subscription verification uses a minimal server that stores only transaction IDs and expiry dates.
5. Data Deletion
Deleting the App removes all locally stored data, including meal entries, photos, profile data, and preferences. API keys stored in the Keychain are also removed on app deletion.
You can also reset all data from within the App via Settings → Danger Zone → Reset All Data.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 17. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
7. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Union, you have the right to:
- Access — request what data we have about you
- Deletion — request deletion of your data
- Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
- Portability — export your data (available via Settings → Backup & Restore)
- Objection — object to data processing
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control. To exercise any rights regarding subscription data, contact us at the email below.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect changes. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
